Clothes
Before Removing Clothes
بِسْمِ اللّٰهِ
Bismi-llāh
In the Name of Allah.
Virtue:- Anas b. Mālik (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The screen between the jinn and the nakedness of the children of Ādam when they take off their garments is that they say [the above].” (Tabarānī in Muʿjam al-Awsaṭ 7066)
After Wearing Clothes
Alḥamdu li-llāhi-l-ladhī kasānī hādha-th-thawb, wa razaqanīhi min ghayri ḥawli-m-minnī wa lā quwwah.
All praise is to Allah Who has clothed me with this garment and provided it for me, without any power or might from me.
Virtue:- Mu’ādh b. Anas (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said: “If anyone puts on a garment and says [the above], his past and future sins will be forgiven.” (Abū Dāwūd 4023, Tirmidhī 3458)
When Wearing New Clothes
Allāhumma laka-l-ḥamdu Anta kasawtanīhi, as’aluka min khayrihi wa khayri mā ṣuniʿa lahu, wa aʿūdhu bika min sharrihi wa sharri mā ṣuniʿa lahu.
O Allah, all praise is for You! as You have clothed me, I ask You for its good and the good of that for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil of that for which it was made.
Virtue:- Abū Saʿīd al-Khudhrī (raḍiy Allāhu ‘anhu) reported that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ put on clothes, he would name each item – whether it was a shirt, pair of trousers or turban – and say: [the above]. (Abū Dāwūd 4020, Tirmidhī 1767)
To be Said to Someone Wearing New Clothes
تُبْلِيْ وَيُخْلِفُ اللّٰهُ تَعَالَىٰ
Tublī wa yukhlifu-llāhu taʿālā
May you wear it out and Allah replace it (with another)
Virtue:- Abū Naḍrah said: When any of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ put on a new garment, [the above] was said to him. (Abū Dāwūd 4020)
